[ in 1937
] the company was born as a family
run enterprise named “Gnutti Bortolo fu Andrea”.
It was started in the town of Lumezzane, in the province of
Brescia. The very first business line was galvanized products
and cutlery, but the business quickly moved onto suppling
factories and foundries in the area with technical and mechanical
products which has become it’s core business.
In those days the Trompia Valley, particularly the Lumezzane
area was heavely populated with mechanical factories especially
foundries, armouries and cutlers, and Gnutti Bortolo were
their first tool supplier. The first goods traded were hand
tools, cutting tools, chemical products and hardware.
[ in 1964 ]
The company was renamed “Gnutti Bortolo Brothers”.
In October of the same year the business moved to its present
site in Monsuello Road.
[ On June 7th 1966
]The founder Bortolo Gnutti died.
After which there were company name and legal changes which
were resolved in 1985 becoming “Gnutti Bortolo spa”.
[ in 1984 ]The
first raw material codification began. At the end of the 80’s
a new professional approach was introduced which overcame
contrasting views brought about by generation gap opinions.
A whole new philosophy was created in the shadow of what was
becoming anachronist.
[ in 1993 ]
a new operating system was introduced which enabled all stock
to be subdived and computerised.
The 90’s were a time for constant review and changes
were constantly being made, resulting in a younger and more
vibrant work force.
[ in 2001 ]
The plan for building and layout of the new site started.
[ in 2003 ]
Gnutti Bortolo has a its own digital
catalogue of all ready-in-stock items (ask

The new site and stock for the business started
to be built.
[ in 2006 ]
Catalogue on paper begins to be printed, category by
catagory.
[ in 2007 ]
In June the Management for Quality System of Gnutti
Bortolo SPA was certified according to UNI EN ISO 9001:2000
standard, for application field (EA 29a) “Durable
and consumption technical goods trade for mechanical
industry”.
