Diatomaceous earth is a sedimentary siliceous rock of organic origin and is the fossil residue of microscopic algae of the diatom family. Also known by other names, such as diatomaceous earth, diatomite, diatomaceous earth, it is used as a solid-to-liquid separator with very fine filtrations in many clinical analysis procedures and an adjuvant in filtration for industrial uses even in contact with drinking water.
